Please read: Schedule changes!

February 19th, 2012 | Posted by admin in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

UFL fans – there have been some schedule changes and it’s taken too long to update you all, so here goes:

From now until the end of the season, all single games will start at 3:00 pm. All doubleheaders will start at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, respectively. I will update the schedule graphic on the schedule page once I confirm that there will be no more changes for the rest of the season. I will find this out for sure at tomorrow’s game.

AS for tomorrow’s doubleheader, it has been modified. The Gnarwhals-Hot Dogs game has been moved to next Sunday (February 26th) and in its place tomorrow will be a scrimmage. Come out and play if you are bored. The Unicychos-Ill Eagles game will be played as scheduled, and it should be a good one! Unicychos are making a push for the playoffs, while the Ill Eagles look to keep moving their way up the standings.

If you are on a team and have a schedule change, please get it to me by tomorrow. After tomorrow at midnight, the season schedule will be set and no more schedule changes will be allowed (hey, people have to take off work ‘n stuff!).

Carlton Pride – Renaissance Man

February 13th, 2012 | Posted by admin in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Alright UFL nerds, here’s the deal. We are introducing a new unicyclefootball.com feature. I will doing interviews with some heavy hitters in the UFL, getting the scoop so our loyal fans can learn a little bit more about the league and the people who make it what it is. Hard hitting journalism at its most awkward. These are random questions from the brain of Babypunch, a scary place. Each interview will have different questions each interviewee will not have time before hand to think up answers.  You may find out things about these people that may shock, bore, arouse or offend you. This is…

Ten things you may not have known (or cared to know) about a UFL star

Carlton Pride – Head UFL referee

Everyone who has been to a UFL game knows Carlton. As head referee, Carlton makes the on-field action go smoothly, and isn’t shy about laying down the law. Carlton helped found the UFL and has been on the field makin’ calls for almost every game in the four years since. You can’t ever piss him off, and if you talk smack on the field he dishes it right back, which as a player is pretty much one of the funniest things about the game.

For those of you who don’t know, Carlton played a bit of football back in the day as well. As a running back for the University of Memphis and then short stints in the Canadian Football League and with the Green Bay Packers before injuries sidelined his career, Carlton gained the knowledge of the game he would bring to the UFL years later when helping write the official UFL rulebook. He now has a bad ass band – Carlton Pride & Mighty Zion – that tours locally and nationally. They have released four albums and played hundreds (if not thousands) of shows over the last 14 years. The latest release, “Meaning of Life” was released in 2010, and they plan to release a brand new album this spring. Carlton brings positivity to the UFL and that attitude is infectious throughout the league. Oh, another little tidbit – Carlton’s dad is none other than legendary country musician Charley Pride. Yeah. Bad ass.

Anyways, take a little peek into the mind of Carlton Pride with these ten questions:

What is your favorite movie from the 1990′s – True Romance

Who was a better performer in their prime: Michael Jackson or James Brown – Michael Jackson

What three things in your life are you most proud of (in no particular order) – My family, my music and my home

How many pillows do you use when you sleep? – Two. One to lay on, and one to hold onto

If you were reincarnated but couldn’t come back as a human, what species of animal or plant would you be? – Some sort of big cat. Lion or tiger… Lion!

Who would win in a beauty contest – you or Larry Gunn? – ME! I’m just way better looking than Gunn, everyone knows that.

If you could see any band, past or present, even if they have broken up or band members have died, who would it be? – Bob Marley! Was going to see him in 1980 in Austin, but he got sick shortly before and then died shortly after.

Favorite album of all time? – Earth, Wind and Fire – That’s the way of the world

Favorite restaurant and dish in San Marcos? – The falafel pita at St. Pita’s is really good!

How many Grandy’s biscuits do you think you could eat in one sitting? - If I had a drink, probably about ten or fifteen. I’d feel awful about it afterward and probably couldn’t live with myself. Haha!

—————-

Thanks to Carlton for putting up with me and answering my random questions. Catch him at the next game and check him out on his website at www.carltonpride.com. Get his music. And be sure to bring the ref a beer – he’ll love you forever.

Season 7 rolling along

October 18th, 2011 | Posted by admin in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Season 7 is nearing the halfway point. The weather is getting cooler and daylight savings time is about to hit, so make sure you check out the Schedule page for the most up-to-date game times.

On October 9, the Hot Dogs beat the Ill Eagles 112-56, breaking the all time single game high score of 81 set by the Gnarwhals in Season 6. First 100 point game in UFL history! The Hot Dogs improved to 4-1 on the season and took over first place in the league until this past Sunday, when the Gnarwhals (4-0) defeated the Unicychos (1-2) 62 to 12 to move back into first.

Coming up this Sunday, the 0-4 Berzerkers look to get their first win of the season against the 1-3 Los Bierdos. The Berzerkers have been playing strong despite not winning this season, but the newest UFL team, Los Bierdos have already notched a win against the Unicychos and look to get another this weekend. The experienced and tough Berzerker squad will be looking for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The standings as of October 16 are below:

Standings (As of October 2)

1. Gnarwhals 4-0
2. Hot Dogs 4-1
3. Ill Eagles 2-2
4. Unicychos 1-2
5. Los Bierdos 1-3
6. Berzerkerz 0-4

Come out to the game – Los Bierdos and Gnarwhals have merch for sale! Only 10 bucks for T-shirts (both teams) and the Gnarwhals have stickers ($1), koozies ($2) and hats ($10) as well.

See you on the field -

Season 7 UPDATE

October 7th, 2011 | Posted by babypunch in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

As of October 2, here are the league standings:

Standings (As of October 2)

1. Gnarwhals 3-0
2. Hot Dogs 3-1
3. Ill Eagles 2-1
4. Unicychos 1-1
5. Los Bierdos 1-3
6. Berzerkerz 0-4

This Sunday, The Hot Dogs take on the Ill Eagles in a battle for 2nd place. The Ill Eagles and Hot Dogs are both playing tough games this season, so this could turn out to be a preview of a playoff match. The Ill Eagles are losing defensive force Dank Tank, but with the return of Crazy Horse they should be in position to make the playoffs this year.

On October 16th, the Gnarwhals take on the Unicychos in one of the league’s historically most intense rivalries. The Unicychos and Gnarwhals will both be playing on several weeks rest, so it should be a good game. The Unicychos lost their best offensive players this season in Turbo Van Winkle and Macseth, but with new QB Fresh Nasty and several other additions, they will look to upset the first place Gnarwhals.

Also, Gnarwhals and Los Bierdos merch is now available at the games! The Gnarwhals will be selling hats and t-shirts, and the Bierdos will also be selling t-shirts. Go get one!

Last, a reminder. With daylight savings time creeping up, game start times will be earlier. Check the schedule page for the most up to date start times.

See you on the field!

Schedule and teams update

September 2nd, 2011 | Posted by admin in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Attention! The season 7 schedule has been updated and can be viewed on the schedule page. Before November 6th (DST), normal games are at 4pm and doubleheaders are at 4 and 6pm . Starting November 6th, the sun goes down earlier, so normal games are at 2pm and doubleheaders are at 2 and 4pm.

The teams page has also been updated. If you have any roster additions, please let me know and I’ll put them up.

Also, thanks to Matt Potts (Magnum 44) we now have a lost and found! You can get his number off of the Contacts page if you lost something or are looking to return an item you found. Thanks Matt!

This weekend is a doubleheader. At 4, the 1-0 Gnarwhals take on the 1-0 Ill Eagles. At 6, the 0-1 Hot Dogs play the 0-1 Berzerkerz. Temps will be up above 100 again, so make sure to bring plenty of cold water for the game (and cold beer for after).

See you on the field!

Changes and stuff

July 2nd, 2011 | Posted by babypunch in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Hey all!

Welcome to version 3 of unicyclefootball.com. There have been a ton of changes, and a lot more will come over the weekend. We are excited to have a better content management system in place (go WordPress!), so news and updates will be made on a more timely basis.

Due to a glitch in the database, our forums had to be reset. Unfortunately, none of the forum data or posts were able to be recovered. No worries though, we now have new forum software in place – Vanilla Forums – and it is great. Head on over to the forums and re-register when you can to keep up with all of the UFL discussions.

We are all excited about this summer’s Guerilla Games (more on that soon) and the upcoming regular season, which will introduce a new team - Los Beardos – out of San Marcos. Make sure to keep checking the site on a regular basis for the latest news and info on the league.

See you on the field!
